Mr M S Jothi, Coordinator, CSIM, coordinates the PGDSIM and SEOP classes for CSIM at Chennai. With over ten years of experience in rural development and community based projects, he handles sessions on Participatory Rural Appraisals and fieldwork. He has conducted PRA study in over 35 villages in and around Chennai as part of consultancy assignments for NGOs and Corporates.
Ms. Latha Suresh:
Latha Suresh, hailing from Chennai, started her career as an Independent Software Consultant. A brief encounter with Mr.P.N.Devarajan, Retired Group President of Reliance Industries in 2000 resulted in her foray into the Development sector.
Latha is one of the founding members of Centre for Social Initiative & Management (CSIM), Chennai, spearheaded by Mr.PN Devarajan in 2001. CSIM is the first learning Centre in India to offer Social Entrepreneurship training.
She has facilitated and mentored over 100 social change agents in Chennai to launch their Social Enterprises – for-profit and non- profit. An expert trainer in Social Entrepreneurship, she teaches at CSIM and colleges like IIT Madras, Loyola College, MOP Vaishnav, Madras School of Social Work, Stella Maris and Queen Mary’s College.
Currently Latha is the Director, of Social Audit Network, India, the Indian chapter of Social Audit Network, UK and a project of CSIM. As an accredited Social Auditor from SAN,UK, she has drafted and audited Social accounts for 30+ organizations that include NBFCs like Shriram Finance, Shriram Transport Finance, CSR projects of Forbes Marshall, Dr. Reddy’s, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Social Enterprises like Mother Earth, Saraplast and over 30 NGOs in India.
Marie Banu With over 22 years of experience in the development sector, Marie Banu has worked for renowned International as well as National level Development Organisations – Danida, Action Aid, Oxfam International, and Oxfam India. Presently, she serves as Director of CSIM, Chennai.
Her interest lies in writing and using communication as a tool to bring about social change. She has authored several books and research publications and is also a trainer in Communication, Fundraising, Social Entrepreneurship, and Social Accounting & Audit.
In 2009, she joined Centre for Social Initiative and Management as Head – Communications and was instrumental in launching CSIM’s monthly tabloid ‘Conversations’ in 2010 which was later renamed as ‘Conversations Today’ in 2013. She is the Chief Editor for this publication and authors articles besides interviewing celebrities who are passionate about social causes. This tabloid is registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India.
Marie Banu was introduced to Social Accounting and Audit when she joined Centre for Social Initiative and Management in 2009. She has attended the Master Class in Social Accounting and Audit conducted by Mr. Patrick Boase and Mr. Alan Kay of Social Audit Network, UK; and has been mentored by Mr. Mike Swain of Social Audit Network, UK and Ms. Latha Suresh of Social Audit Network, India.
An accredited Social Auditor with SAN, India and SAN, UK, she also conducts Social Impact Assessments of projects funded by leading Corporate Foundations across India.
She is a member of the Regional Complaints Committee at Reserve Bank of India, Chennai; a member of Staff Grievance Redressal Cell at Loyola College, Chennai; and a member of Internal Complaints Committee of Bosch Electrical Drives India Private Limited, Oragadam, Tamilnadu.
Marie Banu has received the REX Karmaveer Global Fellowship and Karmaveer Chakra for the year 2014-15 for her commendable work for the society.
Ms Geetha Narayanan
A consultant for International Centre for Women and several resource support organisations, is an MSW from Madras School of Social Work, Chennai. She has been involved with the development sector for the past 15 years with special focus on women’s issues, HIV/AIDS and children and has actively campaigned on these as well as livelihood issues. She teaches ‘Social Diagnosis’ and ‘Gender’ at CSIM.
Ms Girija Kumarababu
A development worker and child rights activist, has been associated with ICCW for many years. She is also a consultant trainer for many National and Internationl Organisations. She has been a member of the child welfare committee.
A an MSW from Stella Maris College, Chennai, started her career in Christian Medical College as Research Supervisor and has worked in T. N. Medical College and B. Y. L. Nair Children’s Hospital in Mumbai. At present she is coordinating the community development projects of Kaingkarya Social Welfare Society.
Dr Kalyani Sundarajan
A Consultant Counselling Psychologist and a senior faculty member of the Apollo Institute of Hospital Management and Allied Sciences. She is the founder member of the Association for Psychological Counselling. A Reiki Grandmaster and an author, she is also Director of ‘Sai Sahara Counselling and Healing Clinic” at Anna Nagar. She has been associated with CSIM now for several years, teaching Counselling to our students.
Ms Kaveri Natarajan
She is the Founder of Kaingkarya Welfare Society which focuses on women’s education, employment and empowerment and children’s issues. She is a recipient of the Sadguru Gnanananda National award for the year 2002. She was also selected as a CRY fellow in the year 1995 for increasing retention of children in schools.
Ms. Sheelu Francis
She is an outstanding leader of the 60 thousand-strong women’s collective, active in the whole state of Tamil Nadu. Ms. Sheelu is also the international spokesperson for the Collective, speaking about the impacts of international trade, debt and activities of transnational corporations on local development, on food security and sovereignty. She trains the students of CSIM on research and monitoring methods like Participatory Rural Appraisal.
Ms Sudha Umashanker
She is a freelance journalist based in Chennai with over 500 published articles to her credit. She is a scriptwriter and broadcaster par excellence. In addition she edits newsletters and website content for several organizations and lectures on Journalism, Media and Public Relations. As a social activist she has been involved in numerous NGO campaigns. At CSIM she lectures on Public Relations.
Dr. Sumathi Narayanan
She has a doctorate in Human Development from the Department of Psychology, University of Madras. She is a Certified NLPTM Practitioner and has undergone extensive advanced training in the application of Transactional Analysis in organizations with ITAA – International Transactional Analysis Association. She conducts workshops on Communication Skills and Personal Effectiveness using TA, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques.
Mr V Balakrishnan
He is the State Coordinator for Tamilnadu Primary School Improvement Campaign – TanPIC, Chennai. It is a network of NGOs, Schoolteachers, Panchayat Presidents involved in improving the quality of elementary education with people’s participation. He handles the ‘Education’ module at CSIM.
He has 30 years of clinical, teaching, academic and research experience in the medical field as he was Professor & Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Govt. Stanley Medical College and Hospital. He has conducted numerous self-development programs for leading academic institutions in India. He handles modules on self development, leadership & team building, management, values & ethics at CSIM.
Mr Raja Samuel
He is an expert in the area of social research, has been working with organizations like State Resource Centre for Non-formal and Adult Education- Chennai, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, and Department of Social Work, Loyola College and Madras School of Social Work. He conducts research and training programs in the areas of health, management and group dynamics. He deals with the Social Research module at CSIM.
He is the Founder of Sparks Development Group, Chennai which is a training development consultancy organization. Involved in organizing and conducting process oriented training programmes, behavioural assessments, research & evaluation studies, he has worked with institutions like Indian Society of Criminology, Department of Psychology, University of Madras, and is actively associated with several government and service organizations. He trains our students in Group Processes & OD.
